Iceland's Magic 10 Days

Welcome to Iceland! 

 

You will be experiencing a 10-day Icelandic culture, food and the magic it has to offer! 

 

DAY 1Reykjavík

On your first day, you will arrive in Keflavík, Iceland, where you will then transfer to Reykjavík and check-in at the hotel in downtown Reykjavík.

 

The rest of the day will be yours to explore. 

 

DAY 2 - Golden Circle

You will have a tour of the Golden Circle, which includes visiting Thingvellir, Geysir and Gullfoss.

 

Through the high-temperature area, Nesjavellir is the first track of the day. Shortly after, it is the National Park Thingvellir, which is very interesting both historically and geologically. 

 

In Thingvellir, the first democratic parliament was proclaimed in 930, where they passed laws and the court (Thing) was held. 

 

In the valley, which is crossed by the Almannagjá crevice, you will be able to see how the Eurasian and American continental plates have moved apart until now. 

 

Next stop will be Iceland's most famous sights; The Gullfoss waterfall, which plunges down into the canyon of the Hvítá River. 

Next, you will visit the Geyser area, where the "Old Geyser", the namesake of all the world's springs, usually rests, but where the smaller spring Strokkur regularly shoots a boiling hot fountain into the sky at short intervals. 

 

You will then drive to the south coast, where you will reside for dinner and reside for the night. 

 

DAY 3 - South coast - Glacier lagoon

 

On the third day, you will be exploring the highlights of the south coast - glacier lagoon and a lot more.

 

The route will travel eastwards. The first will be Skógar, where one of Iceland's most famous waterfalls, the Skógafoss, can be admired. The journey continues to the headland of Dyrholaey, where thousands of sea birds have their nesting places.

Then over to the black sand and wide lava fields to Skaftafell National Park at the foot of Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajökull! Here you will take a hike (approx. 2 hours) to the Svartifoss waterfall. This waterfall flows over black basalt columns, which give it a bizarre appearance. Alternatively, you can take a hike to the glacier tongue Svínafellsjökull (approx. 1 hour).

 

The crowning conclusion of this eventful day is Jökulsárlón, a beautiful glacier lagoon with countless icebergs floating in it. There you take part in an unforgettable boat trip on the lagoon; dinner and overnight stay in the surroundings of Höfn.

 

DAY 4 -The East Fjords

You will visit the of Höfn in Hornafjördur, a small fishing village at the foot of the largest glacier in Europe - Vatnajökull. It is also called "the lobster town". During this tour, you will learn about the nature of the glaciers. About their influence on the environment and the people of Iceland.

 

Afterwards, you have some time for your free disposal.

 

The trail continues through the lonely eastern fjords to the village of Djúpivogur, where you will make a stop. The journey will continue along the fjords to the village of Egilsstadir.

 

Then you will have dinner and the rest of the night is yours.

 

DAY 5 Borgarfjördur Eystri

You will be doing a day trip to the beautiful, small village of Borgarfjördur Eystri.

 

You will have dinner and overnight will be staying in Egilsstadir or surroundings.

 

DAY 6 Dettifoss - Ásbyrgi - Húsavík

Today you will be travelling across the desert Möðrudalur, to reach the peninsula Tjörnes. Where one of Europes mightest waterfalls, Dettifoss and the beautiful Ásbyrgi depression await you there.

After you will continue to the charming village of Húsavík, which is famous for whale watching.

 

Then in the evening, you will have dinner and an overnight stay in the area.

 

DAY 7 Mývatn

 

Hardly any other area in Iceland offers such a wide range of natural wonders as the area around Lake Mývatn.

 

Today you will be visiting the most volcanically active and at the same time one of the most beautiful areas in Iceland. Among other things, the pseudo-craters in Skútustaðir, the lava labyrinth in Dimmuborgir, the boiling mud springs and solfataras in the colourful high-temperature area of Námaskarð, as well as, the traces of the last eruption in Krafla volcano (the last eruption was in 1984). 

 

During the day you will visit "the Blue Lagoon of the North" -  Mývatn nature baths. 

 

In the late afternoon, we will then drive to Akureyri, while en route a short stop is made at the legendary waterfall Goðafoss.

 

Then in the evening, you will have dinner and overnight stay in Akureyri or surroundings. 8: Akureyri - Borgarfjördur - Reykjavík

The trail now leads over the Öxnadalsheidi plateau and through the horse breeding area in Skagafjördur. Continuing through the Húnavatnssýsla and over a second plateau Holtavörduheidi the area Borgarfjördur is reached.

A hidden waterfall will be visited and if the weather is favourable, the extinct crater Grábrók will be climbed. The journey continues towards the capital Reykjavík.

Overnight stay in Reykjavík.

DAY 8 Akureyri - Borgarfjördur - Reykjavík

Today's trail leads over the Öxnadalsheidi plateau and through the horse breeding area in Skagafjördur, continuing through the Húnavatnssýsla and over a second plateau Holtavörduheidi. Once we reach the area Borgarfjördur, we will visit one of Iceland's hidden waterfalls and if the weather is favourable, then we will climb the extinct crater Grábrók.

The journey will continue towards Reykjavík, where you will stay for the night.

DAY 9  City tour Reykjavík

In the morning there is a big city tour of Reykjavík where all important sights are covered.

In the afternoon, there will be a whale watching experience from the harbour in Reykjavík (approx. 3 hours).

The day will round off with a final dinner in a typical Icelandic restaurant.

DAY 10 Departure

You will travel to the airport in Reykjavík to fly back home.
